The Taiwan Association for Medical Informatics (TAMI) was officially established in 1991, originating from the collective efforts of directors and colleagues from the information departments of major medical centers and hospitals in Taiwan. Recognizing that medical informatics is a unique field that spans both medical and information sciences with distinct research needs, these dedicated individuals united to form this organization. Their mission is to research medical informatics, enhance the quality of medical information, and strengthen international exchanges in the field of medical informatics.
Over the past 30 years, TAMI, with the unwavering efforts of successive presidents, secretaries-general, and all members, has grown from a small seed into a robust organization with more than 600 members. These members come from government agencies, universities, public and private medical institutions, and related companies, all working together to advance the development of medical informatics in Taiwan.
Since its establishment, TAMI has been dedicated to promoting the development of medical informatics in Taiwan. Over the past 30 years, the association has spared no effort in advancing academic activities. It has actively organized various international medical informatics conferences, undertaken academic research projects commissioned by government agencies, and hosted visits and observational activities at major hospitals to foster exchanges and cooperation among members. These activities have not only enhanced the internationalization of Taiwan's medical informatics but also garnered widespread support and acclaim.
In today’s rapidly evolving digital age, TAMI understands that the field of medical informatics is undergoing a significant next-generation transformation. The application of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and cloud computing has brought unprecedented opportunities to medical informatics. TAMI is actively embracing these changes, driving the smart and personalized development of medical informatics in Taiwan, and striving to provide more precise and efficient medical services for every patient, thereby laying a solid foundation for the future healthcare ecosystem.
While promoting the development of medical informatics in Taiwan, TAMI has also actively participated in international exchanges and collaborations in the field. Over the past 30 years, TAMI has successfully hosted several important international conferences, including the Asia-Pacific Association for Medical Informatics Annual Meeting in 2006 and 2022. These conferences have not only solidified Taiwan’s position in the international medical informatics community but also contributed significantly to the advancement of global medical informatics.
In particular, TAMI will reach a significant milestone in 2025 by hosting the flagship conference of IMIA, MedInfo2025. This is a prestigious event in the global medical informatics community, where experts from around the world will gather in Taipei to explore the future directions of medical informatics. This achievement undoubtedly represents the culmination of TAMI’s efforts over the past 30 years in promoting international exchanges in medical informatics.
